Lions Club Program Ideas

Has your club had an exceptional program or guest speaker that you would like to tell the other clubs about?  Just e-mail the Webmaster: to have the information posted to the Programs page of the website.

Here are some to get us started:

The Washington

Talking and Braille Library

The Burien Lions Club had a speaker with a very interesting subject: services for the blind by The Washington Talking and Braille Library in the person of Robin Rousue (row-sue). You may contact her at 206-615-0400. They are in  need of financial support, as the City of Seattle is ready to dump them after 101 years of support. The City Librarian has said "The blind are too emotional."

Tape Ministries Northwest

For a quarter-of-a-century Tape Ministries Northwest has been recording on tape wholesome and inspirational books for the blind and the sight-impaired. This non-profit provides the service free, postage paid to all of Puget Sound, 48 states and Canada.

PP Burien Lion Bill Wippel, executive director of TMNW, is available to give a program at your club. You may call his office at 206-243-7377.

Puget Sound at Risk

JW Turner presented a fine call for action at the Burien Lions Club. He is a volunteer working 40-70 hrs./wk. to air the facts of NW Glacier's proposal to expand gravel mining on Maury Island by 30 times. (85 millions tons-24/7)). This expansion would endanger fish and wildlife, says Turner, along with stirring up soil deposits of arsenic (4x times the danger level via ARCO smelter), lead, etc. It will leave a hole big enough to fit 7 Grand Coulee Dams. It will have a severe impact on neighboring Vashon Island and the rest of Puget Sound. The case is now in front of the State Supreme Court. They have managed to put off this project for nine years.

"The Decision of the

Judge is Final"

Joseph A. Breidenbach, a great presenter who did an exceptional job educating us about driving after just one alcoholic drink. He gave an informative, fast-paced program, laced with humor and salient facts, some of them mind-numbing surprises! (he has since applied for membership in Lions!)

"The Decision of the Judge is Final" (includes a panel from Lions members at your meeting)
